Welcome to Beston's No Holds Barred! The page was originally known as Thingvold's No Holds Barred. It was started years ago by Shogun of Harlem as a joke in dedication of the Internet's greatest 'Trash Talker', Shaun Andrew Thingvold, then years later the site was rededicated to Australian MMA legend Luke Beston. I want to make it clear that the only affiliation Shaun has with this page is when he sends us an e-mail or posts on the forum. If you are looking for him then leave a message for him on the 'Message Board'. Other than that we can not help you in any attempt to get a hold of him.

The news provided here is a little different. There are tons of news sources on the internet and if you don't know where to go then check out our links page. What we attempt to bring here is stuff that is not found at other places, but what we think might be interesting for Martial Art fans (and a little funny). Thanks for supporting us!

Rafiel Torre Murder Trial Update

Former fighter stands trial for murder
Testimony doubts self-defense claim

Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - RANCHO CUCAMONGA - A trained martial arts fighter admitted to a friend that he used an unbreakable chokehold to strangle his girlfriend's husband, but claimed he did so only in self-defense, according to testimony Tuesday.

Rafiel Torre told Gerald Strebendt that he used his martial arts skills to subdue and kill Bryan Richards after Richards first confronted him with a gun over the affair he was having with Richards' wife, Strebendt testified.

But Strebendt, also a professional cage fighter, said he doubted Torre's self-defense story and suspected something more sinister, largely because Torre had solicited him several months earlier to kill Richards for $10,000.

"I knew right away what happened," Strebendt testified.

After hearing the testimony during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, a judge ordered Torre to stand trial on charges he murdered Richards, 32.

Richards, of Rancho Cucamonga, was found strangled to death in the bed of his pickup truck in the parking lot of Albertsons supermarket at Foothill Boulevard and Vineyard Avenue Dec. 22, 2001.

Prosecutors allege Torre killed Richards so he could maintain his love affair with Richards' wife and collect the man's $1 million life insurance policy.

Torre, well known in the martial arts subculture as both a former fighter and a journalist, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A judge heard testimony from five witnesses Tuesday, but none was more damaging than Strebendt, a former Marine and student of Torre who now makes his living fighting inside caged rings for pay-per-view television audiences.

Strebendt said his relationship with his former mentor soured in September 2001, when Torre told him that Richards was abusive toward his wife and asked Strebendt if he was interested in killing Richards for money.

"I was kind of taken off-guard," he said. "I had a bunch of concerns and said absolutely not."

Strebendt said he limited his contact with Torre after the murder solicitation. He said he spoke to Torre infrequently until later that year, when Torre called him, said Richards was dead and asked to meet.

Strebendt said they met behind an Orange County strip club, where Torre told him the self-defense story and asked him to be his alibi.

Torre told Strebendt he was cleaning his Rancho Cucamonga martial arts studio when Richards came in with a gun angry over the affair, Strebendt testified.

Torre told Strebendt he knocked the gun from Richard's hand, and then applied a "rear choke" move on Richards until he heard a pop and felt Richards go limp, Strebendt testified.

The chokehold, popular among professional fighters, can render a man unconscious in less than five seconds and can easily be fatal if applied for too long or with excessive force.

"It's known as the most powerful chokehold in Brazilian jujitsu," Strebendt testified. "Once the choke is applied properly there is no escape."

Strebendt testified that Torre told him he then placed Richards' dead body in the back of the truck and left it in the supermarket parking lot.

Strebendt said he told Torre he should go forward to police if the killing was in self-defense. He said he warned him that police would find fingerprint or other forensic evidence.

"He said, "Don't worry, I was wearing gloves,'" Strebendt testified.

Strebendt said Torre then gave him Richards' gun to hold, with a request that he come forward, turn over the gun and relay the self-defense story if Torre was ever arrested.

Strebendt said he didn't believe Torre's self-defense story, but went along with it because he believed Torre might kill him, too.

"I thought the best way for me to stay alive was to not cross Rafiel," he testified.

Strebendt said he kept the gun and Torre's confession secret for more than two years, until Richards' family sued Torre. He said Torre, afraid of being financially ruined by the lawsuit, was preparing to move to Thailand. Strebendt said he then called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department fearing Torre would escape justice.

Detectives arrested Torre on Dec. 12.

Charges against him include a special circumstance allegation of murder for financial gain, which could make him eligible for the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if he's convicted.

Judge Dennis Cole ordered Torre to return to court July 6 to be arraigned.

Rainbowthief: First, when I first emailed you to ask for an interview, you replied "An interview about what? My defeat from Slygirl for the OG title of Attention Whore...lol. No thanks." What changed your mind?

FSSUCKSBALLS: I guess I figured you couldn't say much worse than what's been said. I believe that email was a while ago, right?

Rainbowthief: Don't be so sure, we're just getting started. :)
Rainbowthief: I don't go to MMA.tv, so do you post in all the forums or just the Otherground?

FSSUCKSBALLS: plus, if I dont like your questions, I dont really feel I have to answer. so dont expect me to.

The Rafiel Torre murder case--update

As we approach the date of Rafiel Torre's preliminary hearing on June 22, LukeBeston.NET has been informed that Rafiel Torre, his wife Randi Torre and Angelina Richards were heavily involved in the "swinging" and "wife swapping" scenes, even as Richards was still married to her husband Bryan. In addition, the three frequently used extacy and other recreational drugs. Expect the prosecution to present this as evidence if the Torre defense attempts to use Randi Torre as an alibi for Rafiel on the night of the Murder.

Annabelle at Fightsport

Annabelle Charisma Champaigne (pictured above) was recently granted a pink name at Fightsport, an honor previously granted only to pro MMA fighter useless.

Since joining the Free Speech Monster, Annabelle has befriended the X-Rays 2 and 3, who have taken her under their wing. X-Ray 2, in particular, has been trying to help Annabelle improve herself by watching her diet (he has pleaded with her to avoid fast foods) and by starting an online campaign to get her accepted for the second season of the Fox television network's reality show "The Swan," in which ugly women undergo radical makeovers through multiple plastic surgeries. Predator: No. I train 6 hours a day. With the intensity of my training, you could almost say that practice is harder than matches. Arizona is to nhb what Philadelphia is to boxing.
Beston's: How old were you when you started trainig?
Predator: Six. I started playing t-ball and I struck out. I got mad and charged the mound and started a fight with the pitcher. I was imitating what I saw on tv. That's when my parents enrolled me in Tae Kwon Do.
Beston's: So your initial trainig was in traditional Tae Kwon Do. When did you start wrestling?
Predator: Well I saw the original UFC and it made me rethink everthing I thought I knew about fighting. So I ditched TKD and concetrated on wrestling throughout high school where I won numerous tournaments. Nowadays my focus is pankration and Arizona cage fighting.
Beston's: Talk to us about being Jewish and facing anti semitism, especially in regards to being a fighter.
Predator: Well, there's lots of racism and anti-semitism in Arizona. I had rocks thrown at me in practice several times and I was called names. I got angry one day and pummeled one of the kids and that seemed to stop it. That's when I started to think I could fight professionally like I do now.
Beston's: So was your time as a high school wrestler a difficult time for you?
Predator: No, once I got my respect it was a lot of fun. First of all I was learning how to grapple which interested me and there was also a lot of fun in general. Hazing and things like that.
Beston's: What kind of hazing did they do at your high school?
Predator: Oh you know, typical stuff - tea bagging, 5 on 2's, cucumber up the butt. The thing is you only have to go through it once and then you have 3 years to have dishing it out.
Beston's: You've recently left the Underground/Otherground. Care to comment?
Predator: Well, I just feel the place has gone downhill since Machine May left. You try and have a serious conversation as a fighter, a warrior, and people don't know where you're coming from. They want to talk about shaving their balls and crap. What the hell is that?
Beston's: What about the forum "hotties" like Annabelle?
Predator: With all respect that girl's not up to my usual standard. Besides, what would I do with a 16 year old stepson? Lol. Seriously, some of the girls there aren't bad, but I'm a pro fighter. My standards are a little higher. Like Mike Tyson, when I walk out of the cage victorious, a lot of women want to be with me.
Beston's: Finally, what is your prediction for the fight?
Predator: If he's not licking my balls in under a minute, he wins.
